Our February Sunday rotation continues with one of our most decorated instructors. This weekend, we are excited to have Orquidea leading the floor for our weekly Samba session.
While Orquidea is a familiar face to many through her former role as our Dance Director, her history with the London Samba scene goes even deeper. Her journey began at the London School of Samba in 2008, where she quickly rose to prominence. In 2010, she won the prestigious LSS ‘Rainha da Bateria’ competition, and in 2012, she was elected ‘Musa’ by the LSS members—a title she held with distinction through 2014.
From London to Rio and Beyond
Orquidea’s expertise is backed by authentic experience on the world’s greatest stages. She has paraded as a Passista in the Rio Carnival for legendary schools G.R.E.S. Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel and G.R.E.S. São Clemente.
With formal training in Performing Arts, her career has taken her across the globe to teach and perform—from India and the Maldives to major Samba schools in Sweden, Finland, and Germany. This Sunday, she brings that international pedigree and her deep LSS roots back to the Waterloo Action Centre.
What to Expect: The heartbeat of the class remains our live bateria. Orquidea’s sessions are a masterclass in technique and spirit, perfectly suited for our Sunday community.
