Bateria Class Spotlight – 1st March with Stacey
The heartbeat of a Samba School is the Bateria and this Sunday, that beat is led by our Bateria Director, Stacey. Whether you are a total beginner looking to pick up a stick for the first time or a seasoned ritmista (drummer) sharpening your swing, Stacey’s session is where the magic happens.
Meet Your Director: A “Rhythm Fanatic”
Stacey joined our community in 2016 and quickly made her mark as a true all-rounder. Starting on the caixa (snare drum), she mastered the intricate rolls of the section before moving to the repique, eventually becoming an expert across the entire bateria.
Appointed Bateria Director in 2021, Stacey’s credentials extend far beyond the training floor:
- Festival Stages: Performed at the All Points East Festival with the indie-rock legends Bombay Bicycle Club.
- London Scene: A regular performer with Casa da Cachaça.
- National Projects: Represented London in the Union of the Isles project in Scotland, collaborating with sambistas from all over the UK.
Why Train with Stacey This Sunday?
Stacey is a graded percussionist who believes in “immersion”. You won’t just be playing to a wall; you’ll be learning to hold the groove while playing live for our dancers.
This Sunday, she’ll be focusing on the dialogue between the instruments – showing you how the surdos, caixas, and repiques come together to create that unmistakable Carnival energy.
- Time: 6:15 PM – 7:15 PM (Concurrent with Dance)
- Location: Waterloo Action Centre
- Instruments: Provided! Just bring your energy.
- Level: Open to All. No experience? No problem.
