A Pagode is a lively gathering where this music is played, and its meaning is “fun” or “merrymaking” in Portuguese. While originally referring to informal samba parties, the term later evolved in the 1980s to describe the music style itself, sometimes with a commercial connotation, but always rooted in communal celebration.
