Pagode on a Ship

Join us for an evening of live Samba music, Brazilian food and drinks at The Theatre ship in the heart of Canary Wharf

Pagode means a celebration of friends, food, and of course samba music and dance. The School held this Pagode on a ship in the heart of Canary Wharf. Attendees are encouraged to try quieter instruments than the usual Samba ones. The word “pagode” translates to “fun” or “merrymaking” in Portuguese. Instruments played at a Pagode may include a tan-tan (cylindrical hand drum from Brazil), ganza (cylindrical shaker whose body is usually made of metal), repique de mão, bajo.

Special guest singer Major Pagode from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Cavaquinho player Gustavo Ongaratto Deorriste from Brazil, and London School of Samba musicians and friends will perform a range of well-known authentic Brazilian songs.

Proceeds from this event will go towards supporting the London School of Samba’s 40th Anniversary parade in the upcoming Notting Hill Carnival and to an LGBTQIA+ charity of our choice.
