2024 Notting Hill Carnival

Back to the Roots

For our 40th Anniversary, provided a spectacular parade for Notting Hill Carnival, on the theme “De Volta às Origens” (Back to the Roots) exploring the cultural diaspora of Africa to Brazil, recognising and celebrating the origins of Samba.

See the release of our theme on Facebook

A huge thank you to all the volunteers that made this year possible.

Check back soon to see some of the amazing photos and video of our parade at the 2024 Notting Hill Carnival.

Ala Minha Estrela Guia

Minha Estrela Guia: Mocidade – Beginnger / Intermediate dance Ala. Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, our Godmother school, has been our Guiding Star in the samba world. Influencing us in countless ways, our traditional green and white and Agueré caixa pattern, a call to Oxossi, connecting us further to our roots. We will be paying homage to Mocidade with an ala inspired by their 2024 theme Pede Caju que dou, Pede Caju que da!'

Ala Olodum

The Olodum Bloco, founded in 1975 is an Afro-Brazilian percussion group, in the district of pelourinho, Salvador, Bahia.
The formation of the bloco was to provide many Afro Brazilians their rightful entrance to carnival. Pelourinho can now be known as the ‘ casa do Olodum’ and was stimulated by the pride, power and resistance of the group - helping defend the civil and human rights of the marginalised Afro Brazilians

Ala das Passistas

Pioneiras - Intermediate/Advanced dance Ala, acceptance contingent on dance team approval.
As Pioneiras represent the entrance of LSS as the first Brazilian Samba School in the UK, and Notting Hill Carnival. Showcasing colours of the flag, our Passistas will embody being the pioneers of the first touch of Brazil to have graced the London streets in 1984.
Please email your interest along with a video of you dancing samba.

Ala Bateria

Our bateria will represent the drummers of Congado, a Congolese-Brazilian cultural manifestation that strongly influences samba from its conception to the present day. Bateria costume fee is £35 in addition to the registration fee noted above.
Please email your interest for approval: [email protected]

Ala das Baianas

The first Baianas in Rio, an Ode to Tia Ciata. Coming down to the land of Samba in the Bahia Exodus, the Baianas brought with them their Yoruba culture and ancestrality through social and religious practices. The Baianas are the godmothers and guardians of samba, and a central element of Brazilian carnival, representing the ancestrality of the culture.

Ala Afro

Ala Afro this year will represent Oxossi and the elements of the forest. Our cacadores (hunters) will disperse amongst the flora and fauna of Oxossi’s sacred forest, following him to our Agéré inspired batucadas.
