Yes, the 2011 Notting Hill Carnival for the London School of Samba has only just been and gone but we are looking forward to next year’s carnival already! During the weekend of this year’s Notting Hill Carnival members were able to see the proposed ideas for 2012’s carnival and vote for their favourite. Well, the votes have been counted, the expert panel of judges have deliberated and the winning theme was announced before the start of the bateria workshop at the Waterloo Action Centre on the 4th of September.

The winning theme is:
Passando a Chama (Passing the Flame).

Beginning with the passion ignited by Samba, carnival is about finding others within whom a flame is also burning and celebrating this with our voices, minds, hearts and bodies. The theme will use LSS colours, accented with the colours of both the UK and Brazilian flags.

The theme will now be developed. Our 2012 Notting Hill Carnival theme will form part of our proposal to request funding from the Arts Council. This funding is vital to help support the school.
Remember, there are so many ways that you can get involved, from playing in the bateria, dancing in one of our alas, designing and building the floats, writing, singing or playing the samba de enredo, designing the costumes, helping to make the costumes, stewarding, publicity, photographing and filming the parade, plus many more!
If you have a talent that you can bring to the LSS then we want to hear from you.
Always wanted to dance in the parade or be a part of the bateria but didn’t know where to start? Get yourself along to our weekly workshops now and you’ll have a whole year to learn and practice!

Putting on shows and parades of the quality that we produce takes a lot of hard work, and costs a lot of money! We’re always on the look out for new sponsors and donations. If you would like to find out more about becoming a sponsor, go to our contacts page and get in touch.

We’re always looking for volunteers that are good at finding us new sponsors, or finding ways to raise money. If that’s you then please get in touch now.
