Starting from 10pm at Guanabara in Holborn, the LSS will be presenting our costumes for the 2013 Summer Carnival Season and performing this year’s enredo, Eu Sou Inca: O Defensor do Sol na Era de Exploração during our live show.
We’ve had a sneak peek at the design sketches, and just so you know, they’re looking pretty freakin’ good!

Following the launch all our 2013 Carnival pages will go LIVE!
It will have everything! From registration & prices to the different ways you can get involved.

You don’t fancy performing? You can help make costumes.
You don’t know how to speak Portuguese? You can learn this year’s theme song, word for word because, yes people, this year’s samba comes complete with a phonetic translation!

Never been involved? 2013 is your year to join up.

So that’s it. You have the time, the place and the why. Now all that’s left to say is be there, or be very, very foolish!

London School of Samba Carnival Committee

Mestre Mags, Helena Cook, Steve Fox, Musa Orquidea Felgueiras and Kanika Findley-Chin attended the gala ceremony at Cafe De Paris and received the award on behalf of the LSS.

Come to one of our classes on Sunday evenings at the Waterloo Action Centre. These classes are a great way to stay fit, have fun and, meet great people.
Classes are £7 for members and £8 for non-members.
Dance workshops start at 6pm
Drumming workshops start at 7.30pm.
One fee pays for it all so…ONE fee for TWO classes! Enjoy the samba and celebrate life!

Want to become part of the LSS Dance performance or carnival groups, and take part in shows and parades with us? Your next opportunity to audition will be in the Sunday 14th April 2013.

Candidates will need to show their interest in participating to one of the LSS dance teachers by 7th April, in order to get a recommendation. Once you have this you should contact Orquidea from our Dance Team, at lss.dance.lss@googlemail.com with SELECTION WORKSHOP in the title, before Tuesday 9th April for more info. Participants can expect to dance improvised samba and learn snippets of short routines across different styles. We recommend that you bring your dancing heels.

You don’t have to be a member of LSS to take part in the selection workshop, but you’ll be expected become a member if you are successful in your audition, and to attend rehearsals in order to perform! Performers will either be invited to join the carnival group or performance group. Both groups rehearse together, although the performance group usually perform at staged gigs and the carnival group at parades.

London School of Samba will be kicking off Carnival 2013 in the tradition of our Rio brethen with a Pre-Carnival Parade through Covent Garden this Friday 1st Feb.

Noting Hill Carnival 2012

Catch us from 7-7.20pm as we dance and play our way from Covent Garden Piazza to Guanabara, Parker Street.  Then later on join is inside the warm bosom of Guanabara, where we will be putting on a blistering performance with our live bateria and dancers.

Need more Carnival vibes? Head down to the Tate South Lambeth Library on Wednesday 6th Feb,  for their Pre-carnival evening with live bands, Capoeira and dancing from LSS.

Brrrrrr!  The weather outside might be frightful, but when has that ever got in the way of a sambista!

Waterloo Action Centre is open for business and LSS Dance and drumming classes are still on today. So if your bored of coddling your frostbite by the fire, head down to Waterloo and get ready to work up a samba sweat!

After the first stonking edition of our Quadra Nights, they’re back for January 2013! Your next chance to come join us and dance up a sweat will be Sunday 27th January.

Quadra Nights are our new 2 hour combined dance and percussion workshops,  featuring live bateria and dancing.  From 6-8pm on the last Sunday of every month. They’re hot, loud, fun and are a little taste of Brazil in the heart of London.

The class is a great chance to interact with dancers and drummers of all experience levels whether you’re a beginner or advanced, all experience levels are welcome, so why not come and show us your moves!

Entry fee is the same as our normal Sunday workshops. Non-members £8/£6 concessions and Members £7/£5 concession.

After the fun we’ll head to a local pub! Exercise, fun and relaxation, a perfect way to round off a Sunday!

The London School of Samba is proud to support the work of the Old London Underground Company as they open up London’s unused underground stations.

The efforts of  Mr Ajit Chambers, founder of the company, are truly revolutionary.

In an age of high demand for space in London; Mr Chambers will open up the city to a plethora of new business ideas. London has a lot of extra space right underneath our feet itching for investment and use. It makes perfect sense to open up these areas to the world.

For nearly 30 years the London School of Samba has brought Brazilian dance and music to London and performed all over the world but still requires a place to rehearse where we can be as loud as we want without disturbing a single soul. The Old London Underground Company can provide the answers we seek.
