Congratulations go to Hannah on winning the London School of Samba annual Rainha da Bateria (Queen of the drummers) competition, which took place on Tuesday 19th July at Floripa in Shoreditch.
As usual it was a fierce competition as five girls gave it their all: Nina, Zena, Jordan, Lucy and Hannah. The evening was compèred by former Rainha da Bateria Karla, who introduced each of the girls who then danced individually. Our panel of judges, Charlotte, Eliete and Vik whittled the contestants down to three, selecting Nina, Lucy and Hannah as finalists. Each of the finalists performed again, then the judges deliberated, and members of the London School of Samba cast their votes counting as a fourth judge. After the scores were added up, Vik announced the third place runner up, Lucy, who was presented with a bouquet of flowers. Eliete announced second place going to Nina who was also presented with a bouquet of flowers. Charlotte then confirmed that Hannah was the winner. Outgoing Rainha da Bateria Patsy handed over the sash and crown, and Orquidea presented her with a large bouquet of flowers.
We were then treated to a show from seven former Rainha da Bateria’s Zara, Orquidea, Patsy, Karla, Yazzmin, Kanika and Jo, before Hannah came back for her first dance as the new Queen.

Thanks to Patsy who has been a fabulous Queen over the past year, and congratulations to Hannah who we look forward to seeing performing in front of the bateria at our many events including this year’s Notting Hill Carnival.
